"I practice silent social fasts....", how our CEO practices of a self-love: Valentine's Special!

Our CEO; Shreya Mehta a women entrepreneur, diamondteer, an artist, a mother, daughter and a wife has many shoes to fill and she does it all with charm and soul. In conversation with Mrs. Mehta we learn all about practicing self-love this Valentine's week and some positive affirmations and her role models in the industry as well!

Q: What are some of the habits that you practise to take care of your mental health/ to stay positive?

SM:

I get a lot of my inspiration from meditation, which is something I do every day. Sitting in midst of all hustle bustle and i can close my eyes to focus on only one area = the breath. The area under your nostrils above your lips. I just love to practice that by detaching myself from the commotion around me.

Whenever I get stressed, I bring my focus back to my breath. It helps me stay positive and grounded AND I practice silent fasting on a regular basis (once a month) and I also commit to an 8 to 9 day silent retreat every year.

During those days, I do not speak –– no body language, no electronic communication, no human interaction of any sort. During these silent social fasts, I am within –– completely internalized. All I do is create art, meditate, and write. This emptying of my mind is a necessary detox and a fount of creative thinking and creation.

This internalization, this journey within myself, is an endless source of creative inspiration for me. As a mother and wife and daughter all in one, I find this concentration on myself –– this meditative exploration of who I am beyond an attachment to others –– to be a creative, regularly tapped resource.

Q: What are some of the positive affirmations you would like to share with fellow readers?

SM: .

2) I love myself, respect myself and accept myself exactly as I am.

3) I am doing my best and it is enough.

4) I have something special to offer the world.

5) I love myself and treat myself with kindness.

6) I have been blessed with qualities that uplift others and even on my hardest days, I am the perfect mother for my children.

7) No success is too small to celebrate, and I revel in the tiny wins today.

8) I recognize the wisdom, strength, and compassion that within me.

9) It isn’t selfish to be kind to myself.

Q: Who are some of your favourite women entrepreneur role models and why?

SM:

1) Oprah =. Why: She broke the glass ceiling and continues to inspire so many of us.

2) Payal Kadakia, Executive Chairman & Co-Founder of Classpass) Why: because she disrupted the fitness industry. As an Sian American I identify with her and her values in life

3) Sophia Amoruso: Executive Chairman, Former CEO and Founder of Nasty Gal) Why: How could I conclude this list without the #GIRLBOSS herself? Sophia Amoruso, the shoplifting, community college dropout, successfully launched eBay store Nasty Gal Vintage at the mere age of 22 in 2006. Fast forward nine years later, and Nasty Gal has turned into a global brand influencing women’s fashion choices, with more than $100 million in fashion retail, a 65,000 square foot office space in Los Angeles, and its first brick and mortar store that opened just this year.
